Asking for a little humanity on the street corners of Albuquerque

Years of making portraits of the unhoused has changed my attitude toward people on street corners with signs asking for work, money, food, or even just a smile. I now keep some singles handy as well as a cooler of water and always give “Two bucks and a bottle of H2O” when I’m stopped near someone in need.

I understand that many people have their own reasons not to give money or even water to the homeless, but I encourage everyone to smile and say hello. In the words of one woman, “kindness for ordinary people goes so, so far with the homeless."

Donations are tax deductible and support the Compassion Services Center.
